The single most common question we receive from new buyers:
'Which type of conveyor do I need?'
Here is a clear, application-led comparison from our engineering team:
BELT CONVEYOR — The Versatile Workhorse
Choose when:
Material is loose, granular, fine, or irregular in shape
Products are lightweight (pouches, granules, small parts, bottles)
You need inclined transport (up to 30° with cleated belt)
Smooth, continuous product flow is required
Food, pharma or hygiene-sensitive environment applies
Long conveying distances (5m to 100m+)
Not ideal for:
Very heavy individual items (>50 kg per piece) on standard models
Sharp, jagged or extremely abrasive bulk material (rubber belt recommended instead)
ROLLER CONVEYOR — For Flat-Based Products
Choose when:
Products have a flat, rigid base (cartons, pallets, trays, totes, crates)
Items are heavy (10 kg to 1, 000 kg per piece)
You need product accumulation — stopping items without stopping the line
Assembly or inspection workstations are required along the line
Gravity-fed sections are acceptable (saves power)
Not ideal for:
Loose, soft, or irregularly shaped products
Applications requiring inclined transport (belt conveyor preferred)
CHAIN CONVEYOR — For Heavy & Harsh Conditions
Choose when:
Material is very heavy, hot, sharp or highly abrasive
Operating temperature exceeds what belts can handle (>80°C)
Application is a foundry, steel plant, cement plant or chemical facility
Long-distance heavy bulk transport is needed
You need positive drive with no slippage risk
Available as: Slat chain, drag chain, en-masse, scraper, apron feeder
Not ideal for:
Light, fragile or food-grade applications without special design
APRON CONVEYOR — For Extreme Bulk Duty
Choose when:
Material is extremely lumpy, sharp-edged or heavy (coal, ore, castings, clinker)
High impact loading from crusher or hopper discharge
Conventional belt would be damaged within weeks
Heavy-duty primary feeding application (under crusher, below hopper)
Key feature: Steel apron pans absorb impact that destroys rubber belts
